An ACS estimate is not a parcel-level observation. It is a survey estimate for a specified population and geography, and its margin of error is part of the result. Omitting that field can make a precise-looking number appear more certain than the source supports.

Minimum source-log fields

Record the table ID, year, geography, estimate, margin of error, universe, access date, and intended use. If comparing two geographies or years, record whether the definitions and boundaries are comparable. The Census ACS subject-matter guidance should control interpretation.

What it cannot establish

ACS housing tenure, value, age, or occupancy estimates cannot establish that a named person owned a specific parcel. They should sit in a background section, while deed, assessor, recorder, mortgage, tax, and court sources support the property-specific findings.

A careful report says “the ACS estimates…” and identifies the geography. It does not say “the estate property is worth…” based on a survey table.
