The figures describe bankruptcy case filings. They do not identify which cases include inherited property, a decedent's property, or a parcel that belongs in an estate inventory. A filing total is useful context for creditor research, but it is not a property-ownership denominator.
The courts publish separate tables by chapter and county. A researcher should start with the case number, district, filing date, chapter, debtor name, and docket source. The property question comes later, through schedules, claims, orders, deeds, tax records, or another primary record.
